Secondary Muscles
Self-myofascial release of the deltoid muscles using a foam roller. Helps reduce muscle tension and improve mobility in the shoulders.
Instructions
- Lie on your side on the ground with a foam roller positioned under your deltoid muscle (the rounded muscle on top of your shoulder).
- Support your upper body with your forearm and hand, keeping your body in a straight line.
- Slowly roll the foam roller over the deltoid, pausing on any tender or tight areas.
- Continue rolling for the prescribed duration, adjusting your body position to target different areas of the shoulder.
- You can use your legs to apply additional pressure by pressing into the ground.
- Rotate your body slightly to target the front, middle, and rear portions of the deltoid.
- Repeat on the opposite side.
Tips
- Move slowly over tender spots rather than rolling quickly; this allows the muscle to respond and relax.
- Breathe deeply and relax your muscles as much as possible during the rolling to maximize the benefits.
- This technique is effective for reducing muscle soreness after shoulder training and improving shoulder mobility.
- Perform SMR on both sides of your body to maintain balance and symmetry.
- If the foam roller feels too intense, use a softer roller or massage ball for a gentler approach.
- Include this as part of your post-workout recovery routine or mobility practice for best results.
