Instructions
- Sit on the floor or bench with your legs extended in front of you.
- Loop a belt, rope, or band around the ball of one foot.
- Keep your leg extended with your heel off the ground.
- Pull the belt so that the foot is everted, with the outside of the foot being pulled toward you.
- You should feel a stretch in the outer shin and anterior tibialis.
- Hold the stretched position for 10-30 seconds while breathing steadily.
- Release the stretch and rest briefly.
- Repeat on the opposite side.
Tips
- Keep your leg relatively straight; slight knee bend is acceptable.
- Avoid bouncing or jerking during the stretch.
- Breathe deeply and relax into the stretch gradually.
- This stretch is beneficial for shin splints prevention and ankle mobility.
- Perform this stretch regularly if you participate in running or jumping activities.
- Hold times can be increased as flexibility improves.
