Tensor Fasciae Latae SMR
Self-myofascial release technique using a foam roller to reduce tension in the tensor fasciae latae and surrounding hip abductor tissues.
Instructions
- Sit on the ground and position a foam roller on the outside of your thigh.
- Place the opposite leg crossed over for balance and support using your arms.
- Slowly roll the foam roller along the outer thigh and hip area where the TFL is located.
- Pause on any tender or tight areas and apply gentle pressure for 15-30 seconds.
- Roll along the entire outer hip and thigh region for 60-90 seconds.
- Repeat on the opposite side.
Tips
- Start with lighter pressure and gradually increase intensity as the tissue releases.
- Breathing deeply helps the muscles relax and become more receptive to the massage.
- Perform this after workouts or as part of a mobility routine.
- Do not roll directly on the bone; focus on the muscular tissue.
- Regular foam rolling can improve hip mobility and reduce IT band tightness.
