Full Locust Pose
A yoga-based backbending pose performed lying face-down where both legs and arms are lifted off the ground to strengthen the posterior chain and improve spinal extension.
Instructions
- Lie face-down on a yoga mat with your legs extended and your arms by your sides.
- Press your forehead to the mat and engage your core muscles.
- Place your arms by your sides with your palms facing downward for support.
- Press down through your pelvis and arms to engage your back muscles.
- Inhale and lift your chest, legs, and arms off the ground simultaneously.
- Extend your legs strongly and reach your arms forward or by your sides.
- Your gaze should remain downward to maintain a neutral neck position.
- Hold the lifted position while breathing steadily, maintaining tension throughout your body.
Tips
- This pose strengthens the entire posterior chain, including the lower back, glutes, and hamstrings.
- Avoid looking upward; maintain a neutral neck position to prevent strain.
- The lifting should come from your core and back muscles, not your shoulders.
- This pose is excellent for improving posture and counteracting forward slouching.
- Hold the pose for shorter durations and gradually increase holding time as strength improves.
- This is an active strengthening exercise, not a passive stretch.
