Secondary Muscles

Posterior chain exercise using cable machine to strengthen the lower back and hamstrings.

Instructions

  1. Attach handles to the cable machine at shoulder height.
  2. Stand facing away from the machine with feet shoulder-width apart.
  3. Position the handles across your upper back or shoulders with your hands holding the ends.
  4. Keep your chest up and your legs straight with a slight bend in your knees.
  5. Hinge forward at the hips by bending your torso forward while keeping your back straight.
  6. Continue until your torso is approximately parallel to the ground.
  7. Squeeze your hamstrings and glutes, then drive your hips forward to return to the starting position.
  8. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Tips

  • Maintain a neutral spine throughout the movement; avoid rounding your lower back
  • Focus on a hip hinge motion rather than just bending at the waist
  • Keep the cable tension throughout the entire movement
  • This exercise is excellent for posterior chain development and lower back strengthening
  • Start with light weight to master the movement pattern before increasing resistance

Recommended starting values
