Seated Straddle Stretch
A deep stretching exercise targeting the inner thighs and hamstrings by sitting with legs spread wide and folding forward.
Instructions
- Sit on a mat or carpet and extend both legs in front of you, spread wide apart in a straddle position (as wide as comfortable flexibility allows).
- Sit upright with good posture, keeping your back straight and shoulders back.
- Hinge forward from the hips, leading with your chest as you lean toward the floor.
- Place your hands on the floor in front of you for light support as you lean forward.
- Hold this stretched position for 20-30 seconds while breathing deeply, feeling the stretch in your inner thighs and hamstrings.
- Slowly return to the starting position and repeat 2-3 times.
Tips
- Only stretch as far as feels comfortable; forcing the stretch can lead to injury or muscle tightness.
- Keep your back straight throughout the movement; round your back by hinging at the hips, not by rounding your spine.
- Perform this stretch when muscles are warm to maximize flexibility gains.
- If the full forward fold is too intense, maintain an upright posture and simply hold the wide straddle position.
- Over time, this stretch will gradually improve hip and groin flexibility.
