Static stretching exercise using a resistance band to improve shoulder flexibility and mobility.

Instructions

  1. Stand upright with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a resistance band with both hands.
  2. Grip the band wider than shoulder-width to allow for a full stretch through the shoulders.
  3. Raise the band overhead with straight arms.
  4. Slowly pull the band down behind your head, stretching your shoulders and chest.
  5. Lower the band as far as comfortable without forcing the movement or creating pain.
  6. Hold the stretched position, breathing deeply and allowing the muscles to relax.
  7. Return to the starting position and repeat on both sides if desired.

Tips

  • Never force the stretch—work within your current range of motion and allow gradual improvements
  • Breathe steadily throughout the stretch to help muscles relax and lengthen
  • Use a wider grip on the band for a more comfortable and effective stretch
  • Hold each stretch for 20-30 seconds to allow the shoulder muscles and rotator cuff to relax
  • Perform this stretch after workouts when muscles are warm for best results
