Tibialis Raise (Cable)
An anterior leg isolation exercise using cable resistance to strengthen the shins and tibialis anterior muscle. Important for ankle health and balance.
Instructions
- Sit on a bench or chair and position a cable machine pulley at foot level nearby.
- Loop the cable around one foot at a time using an ankle attachment.
- Keep your working leg relatively straight and your non-working leg planted for stability.
- Pull your toes toward your shin against the cable resistance.
- Achieve a full range of motion, bringing your toes as high as possible.
- Slowly return your foot to the starting position with control.
- Complete all reps on one leg before switching.
Tips
- This exercise targets a small and often-neglected muscle group, promoting ankle health.
- The sitting position allows you to isolate the tibialis anterior without assistance from other muscles.
- The constant cable tension provides stimulus throughout the range of motion.
- Use light to moderate weight with higher reps (12-20) for this small muscle group.
- This movement can help prevent shin splints and improve ankle mobility and strength.
Recommended starting values
Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
