Tibialis Raise (Band)
An isolation exercise targeting the tibialis anterior muscle on the front of the shin using resistance bands. Important for ankle health, balance, and injury prevention.
Instructions
- Sit on a bench or chair with your feet flat on the floor.
- Loop a resistance band around the ball of one foot, holding both ends with your hands.
- Keep your heel on the ground and pull your toes towards your shin using the band for resistance.
- Contract the tibialis anterior muscle at the top position.
- Slowly lower your foot back to the starting position with control.
- Complete all reps on one side, then switch to the other foot.
- Alternatively, you can perform both feet simultaneously by looping bands around each foot.
Tips
- Isolate the tibialis anterior by keeping your heel planted on the ground.
- Move through a full range of motion from plantar flexion to dorsiflexion.
- This exercise is often overlooked but crucial for ankle stability and preventing shin splints.
- Start with lighter band resistance as this is a relatively weak muscle group.
- Proper tibialis training can improve balance, ankle health, and athletic performance.
