Hip Flexor Stretch (Band)
A passive flexibility exercise using a resistance band to assist in stretching the hip flexor muscles.
Instructions
- Lie on your back with both legs extended.
- Bend one knee and loop a resistance band around the foot of the bent leg.
- Gently pull the knee toward your chest while keeping the other leg straight on the ground.
- Allow the straight leg to relax, feeling a gentle stretch in the hip flexor of that leg.
- Hold the stretch at a comfortable intensity without pain.
- Release slowly and switch legs after the desired hold time.
Tips
- This stretch is best performed after your workout when muscles are warm.
- A gentle, sustained stretch is more effective than aggressive stretching.
- Breathe deeply and relax into the stretch; tension inhibits flexibility gains.
- If you feel discomfort in your lower back, reduce the pull intensity or allow the bent knee to drop slightly.
- Hold each stretch for 20-30 seconds and perform on both sides.
- Tight hip flexors can contribute to poor posture and lower back pain; regular stretching helps prevent this.
