Secondary Muscles

A fundamental hip hinge variation using suspension trainer support to safely load the posterior chain. Develops glute and hamstring strength with natural spinal alignment.

Instructions

  1. Stand facing the TRX anchor point with feet hip-width apart, holding the handles with both hands
  2. Maintain a slight bend in your knees and a neutral spine
  3. Initiate the movement by driving your hips backward while keeping your chest upright
  4. Lower your torso until you feel a stretch in your hamstrings
  5. Keep your eyes forward and maintain a neutral neck position
  6. Drive through your heels and squeeze your glutes to return to standing
  7. Maintain tension in your core throughout the movement
  8. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions

Tips

  • The hinge originates from the hips, not the lower back
  • Keep your shins relatively vertical during the descent
  • Use the handles for balance, not to pull yourself up
  • Maintain a proud chest position; avoid rounding your shoulders
  • Feel the stretch and contraction in your hamstrings and glutes
  • Increase difficulty by reducing hand support or leaning back slightly
  • This movement pattern translates to safer deadlift form

Recommended starting values

Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
