A stair climber variation where you step laterally (sideways) up the stairs, targeting the hip abductors and outer leg muscles.
Instructions
- Stand sideways on a stair climber machine with your body perpendicular to the direction of travel.
- Begin stepping laterally, leading with one leg and following with the other.
- Keep your torso upright and facing forward, moving only your legs.
- Maintain a steady rhythm and controlled pace.
- Complete the desired duration or repetitions, then turn around and repeat in the opposite direction.
- This ensures balanced development of both sides.
Tips
- This variation significantly increases engagement of the hip abductors.
- Keep your torso facing forward; don’t rotate your upper body.
- Maintain light hand contact with the handles for balance but avoid supporting your weight with your arms.
- This variation is more challenging than standard climbing; adjust resistance accordingly.
- Ensure equal time on both sides to prevent muscular imbalances.
