Lateral-to-Front Raises
A complex shoulder exercise combining lateral and front raises in one fluid motion to target all three deltoid heads.
Instructions
- Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, holding dumbbells at your sides with a neutral grip.
- Keep a slight bend in your elbows throughout the entire movement.
- Raise both dumbbells out to the sides until your arms are parallel to the ground.
- Pause briefly at the lateral raise top position.
- From the lateral position, use a pec-fly motion to bring the dumbbells forward.
- Continue until your arms are in line with a front raise position.
- Lower the dumbbells back to your sides using the same motion in reverse.
- This constitutes one complete repetition.
- Repeat for the prescribed number of repetitions.
Tips
- Move smoothly through the transition between lateral and front positions.
- Maintain control throughout the entire range of motion.
- Use moderate weight to allow proper form through the complex movement pattern.
- Keep elbows slightly bent to protect the joints.
- Avoid swinging or using momentum; this is a slow, controlled exercise.
- Focus on the shoulders doing the work, not momentum.
