Lying Quad Stretch
A beginner-friendly stretch for the quadriceps and hip flexors performed lying on your back, ideal for improving leg mobility and reducing knee tension.
Instructions
- Lie flat on your back on a padded mat with both legs extended.
- Bend one knee and bring your foot toward your buttocks.
- Grasp your shin or ankle with both hands and gently pull your leg toward your chest and back toward your glutes.
- Keep your lower back flat on the mat and your other leg extended throughout the stretch.
- You can keep your extended leg straight or bend it slightly if needed for comfort and stability.
- Hold the stretch for 20-30 seconds while maintaining steady, deep breathing.
- Gradually relax deeper into the stretch with each exhale.
- Slowly release and extend the leg back to the starting position.
- Repeat on the opposite side for balanced flexibility development.
Tips
- Move into the stretch gradually and never bounce; smooth, steady stretching is most effective.
- Keep your lower back flat on the floor; avoid arching your back, which can cause discomfort.
- Breathe deeply throughout; use exhales to gently deepen the intensity of the stretch.
- If you have tight quads, you may feel the stretch more intensely; hold longer for progressive improvement.
- Perform this stretch regularly, especially after lower body workouts or prolonged sitting.
- If you experience knee pain, ensure your knee is in line with your hip and not twisted inward or outward.
