Secondary Muscles
An inverted push-up using parallettes where the hips are elevated, shifting emphasis to the shoulders.
Instructions
- Place two parallettes on the ground positioned shoulder-width apart.
- Assume a push-up position with your hands on the parallettes and your body in a straight line.
- Step your feet forward so your hips are elevated high above your hands, creating an inverted V shape.
- Your head should be between your hands with your body weight shifted forward.
- Lower your body by bending your elbows, bringing the top of your head toward the ground between your hands.
- Stop just short of touching your head to the ground.
- Press through your hands and extend your elbows to drive your body back up to the starting position.
- Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
Tips
- The higher your hip elevation, the more shoulder-dominant the movement becomes.
- Parallettes allow your head to move through the hands rather than around them.
- Keep your body in a rigid line throughout the movement - do not sag at the hips.
- This exercise effectively develops shoulder pressing strength with bodyweight.
- Progress toward a full handstand push-up by gradually lowering your feet closer to hand level.
