Pilates Lower Lift
A Pilates core exercise performed supine with lower body control, focusing on lifting and lowering the legs in a controlled manner to develop deep abdominal strength.
Instructions
- Lie on your back with your legs extended toward the ceiling, feet together and legs straight.
- Place your arms at your sides with palms facing down for stability.
- Engage your core and slowly lower both legs together toward the ground without allowing your lower back to lift off the mat.
- Lower your legs until just above the ground or to a point where you can maintain contact with the mat through your lower back.
- Pause briefly, then slowly lift your legs back to the starting position.
- Repeat for the desired number of repetitions, moving with control throughout.
Tips
- This exercise is excellent for developing deep core strength and hip flexor control.
- Your lower back should remain in contact with the mat throughout the movement; if it lifts, raise your legs higher.
- Move slowly and deliberately; the slower the movement, the greater the core demand.
- Keep your core engaged constantly; this prevents your lower back from arching excessively.
- If the full leg extension is too challenging, bend your knees to reduce leverage.
- This exercise is highly effective for lower abdominal strength when performed with proper form.
- Exhale as you lower your legs and inhale as you lift them back up.
- Progression involves lowering your legs closer to the ground while maintaining stability.
