Pilates Single Leg Kick
A prone leg exercise that targets the hamstrings and glutes by kicking the heel toward the buttock.
Instructions
- Lie face-down on the mat with your forehead resting on your hands or on a pillow for neck support.
- Press your pelvis and lower body into the mat to stabilize your core.
- Engage your glutes and hamstrings.
- Exhale and bend one knee, bringing your heel toward your buttock in a controlled kick motion.
- Inhale and lower the leg back to the starting position without completely relaxing it.
- Alternate legs, completing the prescribed number of repetitions on each side.
- Maintain a neutral spine throughout and avoid arching your lower back excessively.
Tips
- Keep your hips level and avoid rotating your torso during the movement.
- The kick should come from the hamstring and glute, not momentum.
- Maintain consistent breathing throughout the exercise.
- Keep your neck neutral by resting your forehead on your hands or a pillow.
- Press your core and front hip bones into the mat to prevent lower back strain.
- Perform the movement slowly and with control for maximum muscle engagement.
- You can add a small pulse at the top of the kick for additional intensity.
