An advanced static hold on parallettes where you lean forward while keeping arms straight, progressing toward a full planche.
Instructions
- Place two parallettes on the ground positioned slightly wider than shoulder-width.
- Sit between the parallettes and place your hands on each one with fingers pointing forward.
- Press through your hands to lift your entire body off the ground with straight arms.
- Gradually lean your body forward while keeping your arms straight and your core braced.
- The more you lean, the greater the challenge to your anterior chain and shoulder stability.
- Your feet should remain in contact with the ground initially to provide support.
- Hold this leaned position for time, resisting the gravitational pull of your body.
- Return to an upright position and lower yourself down when finished.
Tips
- This is a progression toward the full planche - start with minimal forward lean.
- Keep your arms perfectly straight throughout the hold - bent elbows are not acceptable.
- Maintain shoulder packing and scapular positioning to prevent injury.
- Build strength gradually by increasing the forward lean and hold duration progressively.
- This exercise demands significant chest and shoulder strength - do not rush progression.
Recommended starting values
Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
