Secondary Muscles
A static hold with knees tucked in toward the chest while balancing on parallettes, a progression toward the full planche.
Instructions
- Place two parallettes on the ground positioned slightly wider than shoulder-width.
- Sit between the parallettes and place your hands on each one with fingers pointing forward.
- Press through your hands to lift your entire body off the ground with straight arms.
- Tuck your knees in toward your chest, creating a compact body position.
- Maintain shoulder packing with your shoulders shrugged slightly to assist with stability.
- Keep your arms completely straight and your body rigid throughout the hold.
- Hold this position for time, maintaining strict form with straight arms.
- Lower yourself back down to the ground when you have completed your set.
Tips
- This is an intermediate progression toward the full planche hold.
- Keeping your knees tucked reduces the leverage challenge compared to a full planche.
- Focus on building strength rather than rushing toward the full planche.
- Maintain a straight arm position - bent elbows will compromise the effectiveness of the hold.
- Progress by gradually extending your legs as your strength increases.
Recommended starting values
Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
