A standing shoulder mobility and strength exercise where a weight plate is held and moved in a circular path around the body.
Instructions
- Stand upright with your feet shoulder-width apart and your core engaged.
- Hold a weight plate with both hands at chest height.
- Inhale to prepare and maintain a neutral spine.
- Exhale and slowly raise the plate overhead, extending your arms fully.
- Continue the circular motion by moving the plate back and to one side, describing a large circle.
- Lower the plate as it comes back around to your side and down to chest height, completing one full circle.
- Perform half the repetitions circling in one direction, then reverse to circle the opposite direction.
- Control the plate throughout the entire range of motion without swinging or using momentum.
Tips
- Use a lightweight to light-moderate weight to ensure proper form and shoulder safety.
- Move slowly and deliberately through the entire circular path; avoid rushing through the movement.
- Keep your core engaged and maintain an upright posture throughout the exercise.
- The plate should move in a smooth, continuous circle, not stop or start abruptly.
- Maintain shoulder stability and avoid shrugging or hunching your shoulders.
- This exercise improves shoulder mobility, stability, and control in multiple planes.
- Breathe steadily throughout; avoid holding your breath during the movement.
