Side Neck StretchSide Neck Stretch

A simple static stretching exercise where the head is tilted toward the shoulder and gently pulled to stretch the lateral neck muscles and upper traps.

Instructions

  1. Sit upright or stand with good posture, shoulders relaxed and facing forward.
  2. Keep your shoulders level and avoid shrugging during the stretch.
  3. Gently tilt your head toward your right shoulder, bringing your right ear closer to your right shoulder.
  4. Do not rotate your head; move it in a purely lateral (sideways) direction.
  5. Use your right hand to gently and lightly assist the stretch by placing it on the side of your head.
  6. Apply gentle pressure to pull the head slightly further toward the shoulder.
  7. Feel the stretch along the left side of your neck and upper traps muscle.
  8. Hold the stretch position, breathing deeply and relaxing into the position.

Tips

  • Hold each stretch for 20-30 seconds on each side, breathing deeply throughout.
  • Do not use excessive force; the stretch should feel gentle and comfortable.
  • Keep your shoulders relaxed throughout; avoid hunching or shrugging.
  • Do not rotate your head; maintain pure lateral flexion (side-bending).
  • Perform this stretch several times daily to maintain neck mobility and reduce tension.
