Standing Hip Flexors

A static stretching exercise targeting the hip flexors by adopting a staggered stance and pressing the back hip forward while bending the knees.
Instructions
- Stand upright with your spine in a vertical position. Take a staggered stance by positioning your left foot slightly in front of your right foot, with both feet roughly hip-width apart.
- Maintain good posture with your shoulders back and your core engaged throughout the stretch.
- Bend both knees slightly and lift your back (right) heel off the floor, transferring weight to the ball of your back foot.
- Press your right hip forward by tilting your pelvis, feeling a gentle stretch in your right hip flexor.
- Keep your torso upright and avoid excessive forward lean; most of the motion should come from the pelvic tilt.
- Hold this stretched position for 20-30 seconds while breathing steadily.
- Release and switch sides, moving your right foot in front and repeating the stretch on your left hip flexor.
Tips
- The key is the forward hip press rather than a deep forward lunge; focus on the pelvic tilt for optimal hip flexor engagement.
- Keep your torso upright and core engaged to ensure the stretch is directed toward the hip flexor rather than the hamstring.
- A slight knee bend reduces strain and allows better stretch sensation in a more relaxed position.
- This stretch is particularly beneficial after intense leg training or for those with sedentary jobs that tighten the hip flexors.
- A deeper stretch can be achieved by performing this on a step or elevated surface, allowing the back knee to drop below the level of the front foot.
