An isometric posterior chain hold where you maintain a raised position on your stomach with arms and legs extended.
Instructions
- Lie flat on your stomach on a floor or exercise mat with your legs fully extended.
- Extend both arms fully in front of you along the ground.
- Engage your core and glutes to prepare for the movement.
- Simultaneously raise your arms, chest, and legs off the floor.
- Raise your limbs to a comfortable height where you can maintain good form.
- Hold this position for the prescribed duration.
- Maintain tension throughout your posterior chain.
- Lower your limbs to the starting position when the hold time is completed.
Tips
- This is an isometric (static) hold rather than a dynamic movement.
- Focus on maintaining consistent tension throughout the entire hold duration.
- Start with shorter holds (15-30 seconds) and progress gradually.
- Squeeze your glutes and lower back continuously throughout the hold.
- This exercise builds exceptional posterior chain endurance.
- Perform 2-3 sets of holds with adequate rest between sets.
- Progress by increasing hold duration rather than adding external load.
- Excellent for improving posture and spinal health.
Recommended starting values
Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
