Self-myofascial release technique using a foam roller to reduce tension in the thoracic spine and surrounding upper back tissues.

Instructions

  1. Sit on the ground and position a foam roller horizontally across your mid-back at the level of your shoulder blades.
  2. Place your hands behind your head for support and stability.
  3. Gently lean back onto the roller, supporting some of your weight with your feet on the ground.
  4. Slowly roll the foam roller vertically along the thoracic spine from mid-back to upper back.
  5. Pause on any tender or tight areas for 15-30 seconds with light pressure.
  6. Roll for 60-90 seconds total, covering the entire thoracic spine region.
  7. Repeat as needed for tension relief.

Tips

  • Start with lighter pressure and gradually increase intensity as the tissue releases.
  • Avoid rolling directly on the spine; focus on the muscles on either side.
  • Breathing deeply helps the muscles relax during the massage.
  • Perform this after workouts or as part of a mobility routine.
  • Regular foam rolling improves thoracic mobility and reduces upper back tightness.
