Secondary Muscles
A deep flexibility stretch performed in a seated position with legs spread wide to lengthen the hamstrings, adductors, and lower back.
Instructions
- Sit on the floor with your legs extended straight in front of you.
- Spread your legs as wide as comfortably possible, forming a wide straddle position.
- Keep your toes pointing upward and maintain a slight forward lean from your hips.
- Place your hands in front of you on the floor for support.
- Slowly fold forward from your hips, keeping your spine lengthened and your chest open.
- Continue folding forward until you feel a deep stretch in your hamstrings and inner thighs.
- Hold this position for 15-60 seconds while breathing steadily.
- Slowly return to the upright position and rest before repeating if desired.
Tips
- Perform this stretch after your workout when muscles are warm and more pliable.
- Don’t force the forward fold—go only as deep as comfortable without bouncing.
- Keep your spine neutral and avoid rounding excessively through your lower back.
- Breathe deeply and relax into the stretch—tension will decrease with controlled breathing.
- Gradually increase your range of motion over weeks of consistent practice.
- If the stretch is too intense, reduce the distance between your legs or bend your knees slightly.
