Wrist Rotations with Straight Bar

An isolation exercise using a light barbell to strengthen the forearms and wrist muscles through pronation and supination movements, mimicking a rolling newspaper motion.
Instructions
- Hold a barbell with both hands, palms facing down (pronated grip), with hands spaced at approximately shoulder-width apart.
- Extend your arms forward until they are parallel to the floor, keeping elbows close to your body.
- Alternating between hands, extend the wrist as though rolling up a newspaper, rotating one hand upward and outward.
- Return that hand to the starting position and immediately rotate the opposite wrist in the same manner.
- Continue alternating back and forth until you reach muscular fatigue or the prescribed number of repetitions.
- Once you complete the forward rolling motion, reverse direction and flex the wrists, rolling in the opposite direction.
- Continue the alternating motion in this reverse direction until failure or for the prescribed repetitions.
Tips
- Use a light barbell or empty barbell to avoid excessive stress on the wrist joints.
- This exercise effectively targets the wrist flexor and extensor muscles.
- Maintain a slow, controlled tempo throughout to maximize muscular engagement.
- The alternating motion addresses potential strength imbalances between arms.
- This exercise is excellent for improving wrist stability and grip endurance.
