Abducted Balance Lunge (TRX / Suspension Trainer)
A TRX-assisted lateral lunge variation that builds unilateral leg strength and hip stability with emphasis on the abductors.
Instructions
- Adjust the TRX straps to mid-length and stand facing the anchor point
- Hold the TRX handles at chest height with arms slightly bent
- Stand with feet together in a neutral stance
- Step one leg out to the side at approximately a 45-degree angle while keeping the other leg relatively straight
- Shift your weight onto the stepping leg and descend into a lateral lunge position
- Keep your torso upright and use the TRX for balance assistance
- The stepping leg should be bent while the opposite leg remains relatively straight
- Drive through the working leg to return to the starting position
Tips
- The TRX provides balance assistance, allowing for greater range of motion
- This variation emphasizes the abductors and outer glute muscles
- Maintain an upright torso to properly target the intended muscles
- Use the TRX handles for balance rather than pulling hard on them
- The abducted (lateral) angle targets different muscle groups than forward lunges
- Perform equal reps on both sides to ensure balanced strength development
