Alternating Leg Raise
A core exercise performed lying on the back where you alternately raise and lower each leg. Develops hip flexor and lower abdominal strength.
Instructions
- Lie flat on your back on a mat with your legs extended and your arms by your sides, palms down.
- Keep your lower back pressed to the floor throughout the movement.
- Raise your right leg to about 45-90 degrees while keeping it relatively straight.
- Lower your right leg back down to the starting position without letting it touch the floor.
- Immediately raise your left leg in the same manner.
- Lower your left leg without touching the floor. One rep equals one raise on each side.
- Continue alternating in a controlled manner for all repetitions.
Tips
- Press your lower back to the floor to prevent lumbar strain.
- For an easier variation, bend your knees.
- For a harder variation, lower your legs closer to the floor without touching it.
- Move in a controlled manner; avoid momentum and swinging.
- Keep your core engaged throughout the movement.
- Place your hands under your glutes for additional lower back support if needed.
