A static balance exercise using an unstable board to strengthen ankle stabilizers and improve proprioceptive awareness for better overall balance and coordination.
Instructions
- Place a balance board on a flat, stable surface.
- Step onto the center of the balance board with both feet.
- Position your feet hip-width apart on the board surface.
- Engage your core and maintain an upright posture.
- Focus your gaze on a fixed point in front of you to aid balance.
- Attempt to maintain the board level without letting it touch the ground on either side.
- Hold the balance for the desired duration, maintaining steady tension.
- Step off with control when finished.
Tips
- Start with a wall or stable object nearby for safety and balance assistance.
- Keep your weight distributed between your feet—do not favor one side.
- Maintain slight knee flexion throughout to absorb movement.
- This exercise develops ankle stability and proprioceptive awareness.
- Increase difficulty by holding weights, closing your eyes, or performing movements on the board.
- Perform 2-3 sets of 30-60 second holds for ankle and balance development.
