Crescent Low Lunge
Yoga-inspired dynamic stretch targeting the hip flexors, quadriceps, and chest while building lower body strength and improving mobility.
Instructions
- Start in a standing position and step forward with your right foot, bending your right knee into a deep lunge position.
- Lower your back left knee to the ground or a mat for padding.
- Place your hands on the ground beside your front foot, or on your front leg for support.
- Gently press your hips forward and downward, deepening the stretch in your hip flexor and quadriceps of the back leg.
- For a deeper stretch, slowly sweep your arms upward and back, opening your chest toward the sky.
- Hold this position for 15-30 seconds while breathing deeply.
- Return to starting position and repeat on the other side.
Tips
- Keep your front knee aligned over your ankle to prevent knee strain.
- The back knee should be on a padded surface to reduce discomfort.
- Focus on a deep hip flexor and quad stretch; let the crescent arm position add a chest opening.
- Breathe deeply and steadily throughout the hold; avoid holding your breath.
- This stretch is excellent after leg workouts or during a warm-up routine.
- You can hold the bottom position with your hands on the ground for a gentler version.
- Perform 1-2 sets of 15-30 second holds per side.
