Deadlift (Cable)

Compound lower body exercise using cables that mimics the deadlift movement, providing constant tension and reduced lower back strain.
Instructions
- Move the cables to the bottom of the towers and select an appropriate weight.
- Stand directly in between the uprights with feet at hip to shoulder-width apart.
- To begin, squat down by flexing your hips and knees until you can reach the handles.
- After grasping them, begin your ascent by driving through your heels.
- Extend your hips and knees while keeping your hands hanging at your sides.
- Keep your head and chest up throughout the movement, returning to the starting position.
Tips
- The cable provides constant tension throughout the entire deadlift range of motion.
- Maintain a neutral spine by keeping your chest up and core engaged throughout.
- Drive through your heels and extend your hips explosively at the top of the movement.
- The cable variation reduces compressive forces on the lower back compared to barbell deadlifts.
- Use this variation for higher rep ranges (8-12 reps) or as a deload alternative to barbell deadlifts.
Recommended starting values
Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
