Primary Muscles

Glute and hip abductor isolation exercise using cable machine with ankle cuff attachment.

Instructions

  1. Attach an ankle cuff to the cable machine and adjust it to the lowest setting.
  2. Stand upright holding on to a support for balance, with the machine positioned to the side of your working leg.
  3. Fasten the ankle cuff around one foot with the cable attached to the outer ankle.
  4. Keep your working leg straight and your torso upright.
  5. Raise your leg out to the side away from your body, lifting from your hip.
  6. Continue until your leg is at approximately a 45-degree angle away from your body.
  7. Squeeze your glutes and hip abductors at the end of the movement.
  8. Slowly return your leg to the starting position with control.
  9. Complete all reps on one leg, then switch to the other leg.

Tips

  • Keep your torso upright and avoid leaning away from the working leg
  • Move only at the hip joint; avoid rotating your torso
  • Keep your working leg straight throughout the movement
  • This exercise is excellent for glute activation and hip strength
  • Focus on a slow, controlled movement rather than using momentum
