A glute and abductor isolation exercise using band resistance to activate the hip abductor muscles through lateral movement.

Instructions

  1. Place a resistance band around both legs just above the knees.
  2. Stand with feet hip-width apart and a slight knee bend, maintaining an athletic stance.
  3. Keep your torso upright and core engaged throughout the movement.
  4. Step laterally with one leg, maintaining band tension throughout.
  5. Bring the trailing leg to meet the leading leg, maintaining the knee bend and band tension.
  6. Continue stepping in one direction for the desired number of steps, then reverse direction.

Tips

  • Keep your knees pushed outward against the band throughout; this maximizes glute and abductor engagement.
  • Maintain an upright torso; avoid excessive forward lean or side-to-side movement.
  • Move slowly and deliberately, emphasizing the contraction of the glutes and hip abductors.
  • The band should maintain constant tension throughout the entire movement.
  • This is an excellent glute activation exercise before lower body training.
  • Perform 10-15 steps per side for optimal glute activation and muscle endurance.
