A machine-based isolation exercise that targets the glutes through hip extension movement. Provides guided stability and reduces spinal stress.
Instructions
- Adjust the machine to fit your body size and position yourself facing forward.
- Place one leg in the foot pad at hip height with your knee slightly bent.
- Grip the handles in front for balance and stability.
- Maintain an upright posture with your core engaged throughout the movement.
- Push backward through the leg pad, extending your hip and engaging your glute.
- Achieve full hip extension while maintaining neutral spine position.
- Return to the starting position with controlled movement.
- Complete all reps on one leg before switching sides.
Tips
- The machine provides guided movement that reduces lower back strain compared to free weight exercises.
- Maintain contact with the handles for stability and proper form.
- Squeeze your glute at full extension for maximum muscle engagement.
- Keep your torso upright to prevent lower back involvement and isolate the glutes.
- Use a moderate weight with higher reps (12-15) for effective glute activation.
- This exercise is excellent for targeting the glutes without heavy spinal loading.
Recommended starting values
Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
