A deep stretching exercise that targets both the hip flexors and quadriceps performed in a prone position with assistance from a belt or band.
Instructions
- Lie face down on an exercise mat with your body relaxed and arms extended in front of you.
- Loop a rope, belt, or resistance band around one foot.
- Flex the knee of the banded leg and begin to extend the hip, using both hands to gently pull on the belt.
- Continue pulling until your knee and hip come off the floor, creating tension along the front of your thigh and hip.
- Keep your torso and lower body stable against the floor as you pull.
- Hold this stretched position, breathing deeply and relaxing into the stretch.
- Gently release the tension and lower your leg back to the starting position.
- Repeat on the opposite leg.
Tips
- Hold each stretch for 10-20 seconds, allowing your muscles to relax into the full range.
- Breathe steadily throughout; never hold your breath during the stretch.
- Keep your hips level and stable to maximize the stretch across both muscle groups.
- A belt or band provides better control than pulling with your hands alone.
- This stretch is most effective when performed after a workout when muscles are warm and pliable.
- Avoid forcing the stretch; work within your comfortable range and gradually improve flexibility over time.
Recommended starting values
