Jogging (Treadmill)Jogging (Treadmill)

A cardiovascular exercise performed on a motorized treadmill, offering a controlled environment for building aerobic fitness and leg endurance.

Instructions

  1. Step onto the treadmill and straddle the belt on either side of the console.
  2. Select your desired workout mode from the menu, such as manual, preset program, or custom settings.
  3. If desired, enter your age and weight to help the treadmill estimate calories burned during the session.
  4. Select your target speed and incline, or allow the treadmill to guide you through a preset program.
  5. Start the treadmill at a slow pace and allow it to reach your target speed.
  6. Begin jogging when the belt reaches your desired pace, maintaining steady, comfortable effort.
  7. Hold onto the handrails for balance or heart rate monitoring only, not for support or assistance.
  8. Maintain proper posture with your shoulders relaxed and your core engaged throughout the workout.
  9. Run for your target duration or distance at consistent effort.
  10. Gradually decrease speed and allow the belt to slow before stepping off the treadmill safely.

Tips

  • Hold the handrails only when necessary for balance or checking your heart rate; avoid becoming dependent on them.
  • Treadmills provide consistent, controlled conditions and lower-impact training compared to outdoor running.
  • Adjust the incline to vary the intensity and challenge different muscle groups.
  • Many treadmills overestimate calorie burn; use the estimate as a general guide rather than an absolute number.
  • Safety is paramount; always exit the belt safely and never jump off while it is still moving.
  • For a 150-pound person, approximately 30 minutes of jogging burns nearly 250 calories compared to 450+ when running.
  • Vary your workouts with intervals, incline changes, and different durations to prevent boredom and plateaus.

Recommended starting values

Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.

Goal Sets Distance
Gain strength 3 300 m
Build muscle 3 700 m
Build endurance 3 1.3 km
