Jumping Jack
A basic bodyweight cardiovascular exercise where you jump while spreading your legs and raising your arms overhead, building cardio fitness and coordination.
Instructions
- Stand upright with your feet together and your arms at your sides.
- Bend your knees slightly and prepare to jump off the ground.
- Explosively jump upward while simultaneously spreading your legs wide, about shoulder-width or wider.
- As you jump, swing your arms upward and outward, bringing them overhead or in front of your body.
- Land softly with your feet apart and your arms in the elevated position.
- Immediately jump again, bringing your feet back together and lowering your arms back to your sides.
- Land with your feet together and your arms at your sides in the starting position.
- Repeat continuously for the desired number of repetitions or duration.
Tips
- Land softly with bent knees to absorb the impact and protect your joints.
- Perform the movement in a smooth, rhythmic manner at a comfortable pace initially.
- As fitness improves, increase the speed and intensity of your jumping jacks.
- This exercise is excellent for warm-ups, cool-downs, or as part of a cardio circuit.
- Jumping jacks elevate your heart rate quickly and effectively build cardiovascular endurance.
- For lower-impact variations, step your feet out instead of jumping.
- Maintain good posture throughout, keeping your core engaged and your shoulders relaxed.
