An advanced calisthenics isometric exercise performed on a bench where the body forms an L-shape with legs extended and torso upright. This variation increases difficulty over standard L-sits.

Instructions

  1. Sit on a bench with your legs extended in front of you.
  2. Place your hands on the bench beside your hips with fingers pointing backward or gripping the bench edge.
  3. Push through your hands to lift your body off the bench.
  4. Keep your legs parallel to the ground, forming an L-shape.
  5. Maintain an upright torso with engaged core.
  6. Hold this position for as long as possible.
  7. Lower down and rest before repeating.
  8. Gradually increase hold duration.

Tips

  • The bench elevation makes this more difficult than ground L-sits.
  • Maintain scapular tension and avoid shrugging your shoulders.
  • Keep your core maximally engaged throughout.
  • Progress by holding longer before advancing to variations.
  • Point your toes to increase hip flexor engagement.
  • This is an advanced movement; ensure adequate core strength first.
  • Use this for time-based progressions rather than reps.

Recommended starting values

Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
