Lateral Box Step Up
A step-up variation performed sideways onto a box or elevated platform to build unilateral leg strength and hip stability.
Instructions
- Stand sideways next to a sturdy box positioned perpendicular to your body.
- Plant your inside foot on the box and push through that heel.
- Drive your hip and knee to stand fully on the box.
- Maintain an upright torso throughout the movement.
- Step down from the box using controlled movement.
- Lower yourself back to the starting position.
- Complete all repetitions on one side, then switch sides and repeat.
- Ensure the box is at an appropriate height for your fitness level.
Tips
- Use a sturdy, stable box that won’t shift during the movement.
- Push primarily with the leg on the box, not by pulling with your trailing leg.
- Maintain proper posture without leaning forward.
- Move deliberately and with control, not explosively.
- For increased difficulty, hold dumbbells or use a higher box.
- Start with a lower step height if you’re new to this movement.
