Leg Extension (TRX / Suspension Trainer)
A suspension-based isolation exercise for the quadriceps using a seated leg extension motion. Targets the front thigh with minimal joint stress.
Instructions
- Sit on the ground facing the TRX anchor point with legs extended
- Place your feet in the foot cradle of the straps
- Support yourself with your hands behind you on the ground
- Extend one or both legs forward, straightening your knees
- Contract your quadriceps fully at the top of the movement
- Bend your knees to return to the starting position
- Maintain core tension and avoid excessive lower back extension
- Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
Tips
- Keep your shoulders engaged and chest upright
- The movement is isolated to the knee joint
- You can perform this unilaterally (one leg at a time) or bilaterally (both legs)
- Increase difficulty by reducing hand support
- Breathe out during the extension, breathe in during the return
- Control the return; avoid letting gravity lower your legs quickly
- Feel the quadricep contraction, not strain in the knee joint
Recommended starting values
Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
