An isolation exercise performed on a machine that targets the neck extensors through backward head movement, building neck strength and endurance.
Instructions
- Sit in the neck extension machine with your back firmly against the backrest and your head upright.
- Position the resistance pad behind your head or neck, depending on the machine design.
- Keep your hands on the handles or allow them to rest for stability.
- Extend your neck backward by pushing your head against the resistance pad.
- Move your head back in a controlled manner until you feel a gentle stretch in the front of the neck.
- Pause briefly at the end of the extension.
- Return to the starting position slowly and under control.
- Repeat for the prescribed number of repetitions.
Tips
- Use light to very light weight; the neck is a delicate region requiring careful training.
- Move slowly and deliberately to maintain control and avoid injury.
- Avoid pushing to extremes of range of motion.
- Keep the movement smooth and fluid without jerking motions.
- Breathe steadily throughout the exercise.
- If you experience any pain, stop immediately and reduce the weight.
