Pirate Ships (Kettlebell)Pirate Ships (Kettlebell)

A rotational core exercise where you swing a kettlebell side to side at head height while standing, engaging the core and shoulders.

Instructions

  1. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, holding a kettlebell with both hands in front of your chest.
  2. Allow the kettlebell to hang at waist level with your arms extended in front of you.
  3. Initiate the movement by rotating your torso to one side, swinging the kettlebell to head height using the rotational power from your core.
  4. Briefly pause at the top of the motion, maintaining control of the kettlebell.
  5. Allow the kettlebell to swing back across your body to the opposite side, raising it to head height again.
  6. Continue alternating sides in a smooth, controlled manner.
  7. Maintain an upright posture with your feet planted throughout the movement.
  8. Complete the desired number of repetitions, alternating sides evenly.

Tips

  • Keep your core engaged throughout the movement to stabilize your spine during rotation.
  • Avoid using excessive momentum; control the kettlebell with your core and shoulder muscles.
  • Move at a measured pace and pause briefly at each side to emphasize the rotational contraction.
  • Keep your head and eyes following the kettlebell to maintain balance and body awareness.
  • Ensure your feet remain firmly planted and don’t rotate with the movement—rotation should come from your torso only.
  • Start with a lighter kettlebell to focus on proper form before increasing weight.
