A shoulder discomfort relief exercise where you hang from rings with an exaggerated lean, allowing passive shoulder joint decompression and mobility improvement.

Instructions

  1. Hang from the rings with arms fully extended
  2. Keep your body in a slight lean, allowing your hips to drift back
  3. Relax your shoulders and allow gravitational traction
  4. Maintain a neutral neck position, looking slightly forward
  5. Hold for the prescribed duration
  6. Lower controlled back to the starting position

Tips

  • Start with shorter hold times if you’re new to hanging
  • Allow your shoulders to naturally decompress without forcing rotation
  • Breathe steadily throughout the hold
  • This is excellent for shoulder health and decompression
  • Progress by increasing hold duration rather than intensity
  • Can be performed as a warm-up or cool-down

Recommended starting values

Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
