A dynamic pull-up variation where you move laterally side to side near the top position, resembling a typewriter motion. Builds asymmetrical pulling strength and scapular control.
Instructions
- Hang from the rings with arms extended and neutral grip.
- Execute a pull-up, bringing your chest near the rings.
- At the top position, shift your weight to one side, moving your chest toward one ring.
- Lower your chest slightly while maintaining elevation, then shift laterally to the opposite side.
- Continue alternating sides in a controlled, typewriter-like motion.
- Complete your prescribed repetitions of lateral movements.
- Lower back to the hang position.
Tips
- Master standard pull-ups before attempting this variation.
- Control the lateral movement—avoid wild swinging.
- Engage your core to stabilize during lateral transitions.
- This builds asymmetrical pulling strength important for one-arm progressions.
- Rings add instability, increasing the challenge and core demand.
