Secondary Muscles
An advanced stair climber variation where you skip a step with each leg, stepping every other stair to increase lower body intensity and stride length.
Instructions
- Stand on a stair climber machine in proper upright posture.
- Instead of stepping on each stair, skip one and step on every other stair.
- Maintain a steady rhythm throughout, alternating which leg leads.
- Keep your torso upright and your core engaged.
- Maintain light contact with the handles for balance but don’t lean on them.
- Continue for the desired duration.
Tips
- This variation significantly increases the intensity and demands on your legs.
- Your stride length will be longer, engaging more glute and quadriceps fibers.
- This is an advanced variation; ensure you have a solid foundation with standard climbing first.
- Maintain control and proper form; don’t sacrifice technique for speed.
- For more difficulty, increase the machine’s resistance while maintaining the skip pattern.
Recommended starting values
Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
