Skipping - Standard
A rhythmic cardiorespiratory exercise using a rope to perform continuous double-footed jumps, improving coordination and building calf endurance.
Instructions
- Hold the rope handles at waist height with your arms relaxed at your sides, elbows bent at about 90 degrees.
- Stand upright with feet together, positioned so the rope rests at your heels.
- Rotate the rope forward over your head using primarily your wrist and forearm movement.
- As the rope approaches the ground in front of you, push off the balls of both feet simultaneously, jumping just high enough for the rope to pass beneath.
- Land lightly on the balls of your feet with knees slightly bent to absorb impact.
- Maintain a smooth, rhythmical cadence as you continue jumping for the desired duration.
- Keep jumps small and controlled; larger jumps waste energy and increase injury risk.
Tips
- Focus on smooth, rhythmical movement and bounce lightly on the balls of your feet.
- Keep your arms close to your body and minimize excessive arm movement; most rotation comes from wrists and forearms.
- Maintain an upright posture with slight forward lean and engage your core throughout.
- Start at a slower comfortable pace and gradually increase speed as coordination improves.
- For conditioning, perform continuous jumping for 30-60 seconds or longer with brief recovery periods.
- A rope with good bearings in the handles allows smoother, faster rotation.
Recommended starting values
