Standing Olympic Plate Hand Squeeze

A grip strength and forearm isolation exercise using Olympic weight plates, squeezing the plates between your hands and fingers while standing.
Instructions
- Stand upright with your feet shoulder-width apart and maintain good posture throughout the exercise.
- Hold a weight plate in each hand by gripping the raised ridge or edge of the plate using a neutral grip (palms facing inward toward each other).
- Your arms should be extended at arm’s length at your sides. This is the starting position.
- Squeeze the plates together by closing your hands with maximum force, engaging your forearms, grip muscles, and biceps.
- Hold the squeeze position for 5-15 seconds depending on your training goal, maintaining tension throughout.
- Gradually release the grip and lower the plates by opening your hands while keeping them extended.
- Rest briefly, then repeat for the prescribed number of repetitions or duration.
Tips
- The raised ridge or edge of the plate is crucial—pinching between the smooth surfaces is not effective.
- Use heavier plates for strength development and shorter holds, or lighter plates for longer duration holds.
- Perform this exercise when your hands and forearms are fresh for maximum grip strength development.
- This exercise builds exceptional grip strength, which transfers to many other lifts.
- The squeeze position can be performed statically for time or dynamically for reps.
- Gradually increase the weight or duration as your grip strength improves over time.
- This exercise is excellent for building forearm endurance and hand grip strength.
Recommended starting values
