Secondary Muscles

A hip-hinge movement using cable resistance to strengthen the posterior chain. Emphasizes hamstring and lower back engagement with minimal knee bend.

Instructions

  1. Stand facing a cable machine with the pulley at approximately chest to hip height.
  2. Grab the handle with both hands, arms extended toward the machine.
  3. Step back to create cable tension, positioning feet hip-width apart.
  4. Keep your legs relatively straight with just a slight bend in your knees.
  5. Hinge at your hips, lowering your torso toward the ground while keeping your back straight.
  6. Lower until you feel a strong stretch in your hamstrings.
  7. Drive through your heels and extend your hips to return to standing.

Tips

  • Maintain a neutral spine throughout the movement to prevent lower back strain.
  • The hip hinge pattern emphasizes the posterior chain over the quadriceps.
  • Keep the cable handle close to your body during the movement for better control.
  • The constant cable tension provides stimulus throughout the entire range of motion.
  • This movement improves hip mobility and hamstring flexibility while building strength.

Recommended starting values
