Primary Muscles

An advanced static hold on parallettes where the legs are extended at an angle, creating an inverted V shape with the torso.

Instructions

  1. Place two parallettes on the ground positioned slightly wider than shoulder-width.
  2. Sit between the parallettes and place your hands on each one with fingers pointing forward.
  3. Press through your hands to lift your entire body off the ground with straight arms.
  4. Extend your legs at an angle in front of you, creating a V shape between your torso and legs.
  5. Your legs should be held at approximately 45 degrees from the horizontal.
  6. Maintain straight arms with your shoulders packed and shrugged slightly.
  7. Keep your entire body rigid throughout the hold, resisting gravity’s pull.
  8. Hold this position for time, working to increase duration as you build strength.
  9. Lower yourself back down when finished.

Tips

  • This hold is more manageable than the full L-sit due to the reduced hip flexor demand.
  • The angle of your legs determines the difficulty - lower angles are more challenging.
  • Keep your arms completely straight - bent elbows reduce the effectiveness of the hold.
  • Breathe steadily throughout the hold - do not hold your breath.
  • Progress gradually by lowering your legs closer to horizontal as you build strength.

Recommended starting values

Sensible novice starting points for each goal, for a lifter aged 25–40. Scale down for smaller frames or older lifters. Treat the first set of any session as a discovery set.
