Waiter Press (Kettlebell)
An overhead pressing variation with a kettlebell, emphasizing shoulder stability and control with the bell held at chest height before pressing.
Instructions
- Stand with feet hip-width apart and a neutral spine.
- Clean a kettlebell to shoulder height with palm facing forward and elbow bent.
- Position the kettlebell at chest height next to your shoulder.
- Ensure your core is braced and your shoulder is packed.
- Press the kettlebell directly overhead by extending your elbow until your arm is fully locked out.
- The kettlebell should travel in a straight vertical path over your shoulder and head.
- Lower the kettlebell back to shoulder height in a controlled manner and repeat.
Tips
- Maintain a slight forward lean from your ankles if needed, but avoid excessive leaning or arching.
- Keep your elbow positioned slightly in front of your torso during the press to optimize shoulder mechanics.
- Press in a straight line rather than pushing the kettlebell forward or at angles.
- Control the eccentric (lowering) phase to maximize time under tension and shoulder stability.
- Keep your core engaged throughout to prevent excessive lower back extension.
- This pressing variation teaches stable shoulder mechanics; use moderate weight to focus on form.
